Glass Hand and Globe for IGA

This is another illustration I did for IGA back in the early 1990′s using Fractal Painter software. It is a digital illustration in pencil style of a glass award trophy that IGA gave away at an international event, of a human hand holding a globe. The IGA logo is reflected in the base of the glass.

Cartoon Car

Randal sketched this cartoon car in his sketchbook during an airplane ride from Chicago to Denver. It was done analog… pencil on sketchbook paper… then scanned and imported on a Mac and saved with Adobe Photoshop.

Interestingly, a young man named Ani recently contacted him from California and asked if he could use this sketch on the website he is building. He said, “Yes!”

The Customer’s Need

The manufacturer of Abloy Locks required an illustration to reveal the unique tumbler technology used in their locks for a trade advertisement.

Randal’s Solution

Randal was contacted by the manufacturer’s ad agency in the 1980′s and contracted to create the illustration. This image is one of the working “pencils” that Randal did on his way to the final illustration. Working from physical lock mechanisms provided by the manufacturer, Randal used his extensive engineering and blueprint knowledge to construct the cutaway view of the internal lock tumblers and mechanism. The final art was delivered to the ad agncy, and used in the trade ad for the customer.
