OBJECTIVE
A Denver based design firm required an illustrator to paint a series of illustrations depicting each step in the "How Gold is Produced" process. The illustrations include: exploration, blasting, hauling ore, leaching, milling, pouring Dore bars, and reclamation.

SOLUTION
The design firm contracted with Randal Birkey to produce the illustration series in a line and watercolor style. Photos and technical references were provided from the customer. Line sketches were developed first and approved by the client. Color washes were added to the line art. Each illustration was scanned and moved into a master Adobe Photoshop file where they were positioned, and labels and captions added.

Additional black & white line art "icons" were also illustrated by Randal Birkey and used throughout the corporate collateral communication piece.

"The How Gold is Produced" series was featured in a high quality four color printed piece on the company, both as a brochure center gate fold spread, and as a poster.

Several updates have been done to the series since the original illustrations were completed.
