Pen and Ink Line Art

Over the years, Randal Birkey has created hundreds of line art drawings in pen and ink style using actual pen and ink in the early days, then graduating to digital pen and ink using software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Corel (Fractal) Painter. These are just some of the many line illustrations done over his illustration career.

Godiva Chocolate Easter Gift Basket

Through his New York artist rep, Randal was commissioned to illustrate this Godiva Chocolate Easter gift basket for use in a newspaper ad, by a New York City ad agency. The illustration was done by hand using a Rapid-o-graph ink pen on illustration board in a “stipple” style, which reproduces very well in newsprint.

Glass Hand and Globe for IGA

This is another illustration I did for IGA back in the early 1990′s using Fractal Painter software. It is a digital illustration in pencil style of a glass award trophy that IGA gave away at an international event, of a human hand holding a globe. The IGA logo is reflected in the base of the glass.

Pampered Chef Products

Randal had the privilege of being asked by Doris Christopher to design one of The Pampered Chef’s earliest printed brochures featuring the kitchen products they were selling in the early 1980′s. This line illustration was done by hand based upon photos the illustrator took of the actual kitchen products. It was used on an interior brochure spread with product names and descriptions located around it. Randal also cleaned up the Pampered Chef logo art and added a more contemporary typeface to the piece. It was printed in 2 colors on heavy brown Kraft style paper.
